What is a VPN?

A virtual private network (VPN) consists in creating a secure connection between your system and a remote system by using an encrypted tunnel through which all the data are being transfered.

Why would i use a VPN?

Internet used to be a place without any fence or border, but it seems all that went back to a concept rather than a reality and many ISP worldwide block traffic. If you want/need to bypass those limits, VPN if definitively made for you. A VPN will allow you to :

- Hide your real IP
- Secure you internet connection
- Get an IP address in another country
- Prevent spying in your office/work/school
- Bypass proxies and filters
- Access blocked sites (like in Iran, China, UAE etc.)
- Bypass ISP speed limits on P2P networks
- Play online games, use Spype, MSN and ICQ
- Prevent online attacks

Where are the servers hosted?

Right now the majority of TonVPN's servers are hosted in France & USA. Upon new requests and partnerships we will provide servers worldwide. (Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria...)
All servers are connected through at least a 100Mbit link, some are Gigabit.

How to get support?

Considering the small size of the society, we can't provide 24/7 support. Therefore we will only reply to requests regarding issues about connecting to TonVPN tunnels on up-to-date OS (As of today Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7, Linux Debian/Ubuntu, Linux Fedora 10/11/12). Unofficial/pirated systems won't be supported.

What information do you store?

We do not store any log file as we are not required to do so.

What systems are supporting TonVPN services?

At this time, you can run TonVPN services on following OS :

- Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 (including the 64 bits versions)
- Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora...and any distribution supporting PPTP VPN & OpenVPN clients)
- Mac OSX

About TonVPN Basic

Based on socks5, TonVPN Basic will work only with applications compatible with this protocol (most ftp clients, irc or im but also some web browsers). Only the data transfered through these programs for which socks5 has been configured will have TonVPN as source IP. The other traffic from the system (email for example) will still be routed through your normal IP.

TonVPN socks5 requires a login and password, monthly traffic is unmetered, maximal connection speed is unlimited

** WARNING : A SOCKS5 IS NOT A VPN, NOR A VPS !!! **

About TonVPN Medium

Based on VPN Pptp system, all the outgoing trafic from your system will use the IP of the TonVPN's servers. Really easy to setup it just provides a weak encrypting process.

TonVPN VPN Ppfp requires a login and password, monthly traffic is unmetered, maximal connection speed is unlimited

About TonVPN Max

Based on OpenVPN system, all the outgoing trafic from your system will use the IP of the TonVPN's servers. Installation is made in a few minutes, you need to install the OpenVPN client for your appropriate OS.

TonVPN OpenVPN requires certificates, monthly traffic is unmetered, maximal connection speed is unlimited

Can I connect with the same account on several computers?

You can use your account on all your computers, but you can't connect simultaneously with the same account.

VPN Lifeguard

If you get disconnected from the VPN, this utility will autoreconnect, making sure that the Internet traffic of some choosen applications is blocked. Those apps are closed as soon as a disconnection has been detected & reopened when the connection is back.
This util only works with TonVPN Medium (PPTP) on Windows. It's opensource and distributed under the GNU/GPL license.

For more info on this topic, visit VPN Lifeguard.

How can i pay?

At the moment payments through PayPal & Allopass are accepted. Soon you will be able to use other ways such as Google Checkout, Cashticket and other pre-paid Cards . . .

What are the setup fees?

We don't have any setup fee.

When will my TonVPN account be created?

All accounts are created manually after some verifications are made.
Accounts for TonVPN Basic should be available < 24 hours after payment.
Accounts for TonVPN Medium & TonVPN Max should be created within 2 days after payment .
Unfortuantely, unfair people pay from stolen credit cards. In order to detect and eliminate fraudulent payments we have to delay sending accounts.

Can I try the service?

Before ordering, you may try our services during up to 3 days. Just send a message through our Contact form specifying which TonVPN plan you want to try.
It is recommanded that you test the service to make sure everything is working on your system and that TonVPN matches your expectations.

I want to stop my subscription

You have nothing to do, just don't pay for another month and your TonVPN plan will end by itself. Your account on www.tonvpn.com will remain activated for another 3 months.

I'm not satisfied, can i get my money back?

According to our Sales terms & conditions, we won't proceed to any refund as soon as the connection credentials will be sent.
We really encourage you to try our service before paying.

I paid already & after 24 hours, I haven't received my credentials!

We send credentials to connect to the TonVPN service to the mail that you used to create your account make sure that it is valid.
Please make sure that the mail from TonVPN (issued from this email : noreply@tonvpn.com) hasn't been placed in your SPAM or JUNK email folder.
If you checked there & didn't receive anything, please contact us through the site's technical forms.

** MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER **

I would like an invoice

If you want a personalised invoice, please provide us your name, postal address, zip code, city & country to invoice@tonvpn.com. We will return your invoice within 2 days.
By default there will be no anonymous invoice sent to customer after payment.

I lost my login/password to connect to the VPN

Unfortunately, this service being anonymous, we have no way to make sure that you are really the owner of a specific account.
This means that if you loose your connection credentials, the account will be disposed and you'll have to pay again to get a new one.

My Internet speed is worse with TonVPN

First of all, using TonVPN will NOT allow you to download/upload faster than the limits set by your ISP.
Considering your data is encrypted, it does take time and CPU power to secure your connection. You need to take this into consideration.
There are many factors that can affect network speed :
- peak times
- heavy streaming, p2p usage
- the Internet itself
- browser settings
- distance between your computer and server
- outdated or corrupt drivers/plug-ins
- full cache
- low system resources
In all cases, using a VPN will give you a slower speed than the one you are used to.

I have DNS problems

If for some reason you can't resolve hostnames, we recommend you to use the DNS services from OpenDNS (www.opendns.com) or from Google and point your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 (primary) & 8.8.4.4 (secondary)

I can't send mails anymore from my email client

Considering all your outgoing traffic is going through TonVPN tunnel, your ISP doesn't recognize you anymore and won't let you use their SMTP server anymore. To fix this issue you have several options :
- Your ISP supports SMTPs (secure SMTP) just configure your email client to use SMTPs (usually running on port 465 and requiring your mail username and password)
- Create a Gmail account and use Gmail SMTPs support to send your emails
- Define a route on your system so that all traffic generated by your email client uses your old gateway. On Windows it would be something like : route -p add ip.to.isp.smtp.server mask 255.255.255.255 ip.to.your.old.gateway

For more info on this topic, visit Gmail SMTPs configuration.

I can't access some site/service using TonVPN

There is no filtering done with TonVPN, unfortunately some sites or services may prevent their access to our services.
We can't be held responsible for these troubles. Take advantage of our free trial offer before payment to make sure all services you want to use will run flawlessly!
Please report these to our support so we can check if some solution can be found to fix that issue.

I got an error 619 on Windows when connecting to TonVPN Medium

Your router or firewall filters packets for PPTP support, please check if port 1723 is open and if not, open it.
In some cases, option to enable is called PPTP Passthrough.

I got an error 691 on Windows when connecting to TonVPN Medium

Error 691 is an authentication error and it means there is something wrong with your login details.
- The user name or password is incorrect.
Make sure that you enter your user name and password exactly as provided in the welcome email.
- Another computer is already connected with the same account.
If you're certain that no other computer is connected, wait a few minutes and then try to connect again. Try also to restart your router.
- Your account has been disabled. Please contact technical support.

Common issues with Pptp VPN

What is a NAT'd port?

A NAT'd port is a port through which traffic is redirected from a routeur.
If you want to host a service (webserver for example) on your system, it won't be accessible through TonVPN (http://server.tonvpn.com:8080 won't be redirected to your computer if you aim at hosting a webserver on port 8080 of your system). A NAT'd port will redirect packets to your computer on this dedicated port.
With the TonVPN Medium offer, 3 NAT'd ports (2 TCP + 1 UDP) will be opened for you.
With the TonVPN Max offer, 5 NAT'd ports (3 TCP + 1 UDP) will be opened for you.

What are my NAT'd ports?

Please click on the link below to know which ports are opened for you.
